Chino makes a definite choice at the end of Round 3 - He can go home to his wife and unborn child, or he can stay to smoke a joint and pledge his allegiance to Willie Bodega. Chino definitely knows this is a dangerous decision, so why does he do this? Why does he risk his marriage and possibly his life to buy into Willie Bodega's "dream"? What would you have done?

he stays and smokes the joint. i think he did it because he hopes that blanca would understand that what he is doing is helping the area that they live in. i would have done the same thing because what willie is doing is good and helping the town that they live in.
What Chino accomplished is a poor weighing of morals and decisions. According to Erica, Chino stayed to help better the environment in which everybody lives in, but, you must also think and ask; do the ends justify the means? Is it worth assisting in the destruction of the lives of junkies and addicts to help better the lives of others?
To help with the weight of this decision, you must first decide, is this act pious or impious? The definition of a pious act has been widely accepted over the past couple thousands of years as an act that is holy and accepted by the gods. We could use this definition to help with this decision, but was it not the divine Plato who contradicted this definition of a pious act? Plato stated that since the definition of a holy act must be decided on by all gods and agreed on by all gods(for example, a religion that follows more than one god, or all religions altogether), and since all gods fought battles with each other(ie. all the Greek gods fighting with one another at Olympus) how do we know if one god agrees with the other gods? The correct answer is that their is no way to know.
To go back to Chinos weighing of decisions, was this act right or wrong? If you could ask me, when I myself weighed this decision out in my head, I decided that it was an impious act, and that it was wrong; of course, that is mine and only my definition of an impious act, for if you decoded my preceding paragraph, the only way to judge something holy and pious or unjust and impious is how you and only you perceive this, and that opens the word itself up to a definition as wide as the population of the earth. In some of your heads, you may perceive this as a just and pious act, but I once again would beg to differ.
Wow Liebman.
Chino chooses to stay and smoke a joint with Willie and prove his allegiance because he believes in what Bodega is saying. He wants to help the area and also build "dreams". I don't know if I completely agree with his decision just solely on the fact that he has to be more concerned for his family now. He is there provider and proctector and some of his loyalty now needs to stay with them, which I don't think he has considered much at all.
Jeeze Leibs... thats impressive.
Since he does stay, he just made a huge mistake with Blanca. By doing this he broke her trust but he feels he needs to do be "loyal" to Sapo. I see why he did it but I couldn't have with all that could happen to me at home.
Just to ask you a curious question, why is it that these "criminals" should be jailed for this impious act? These people are a direct result of their environment, while they're are better alternatives for their actions , they are attempting to fix the conditions that they are currently in. One unjust decision does not negate another unjust decision. If I was to be asked, I would come to the decision that the government should either one, step in and try to better the living environment for the many, or two, the people can step up and form a revolution, for this country itself was based on the ethics of revolution and proper justice.
I think Liebman's point is very valid. Is it really "helping" his neighborhood by "hurting" it with the sale of drugs. In what other ways does Willie Bodega not fit the stereotype of a typical drug dealer? Btw - Liebman did a great job. Billy, you can save your artwork for another venue. :-)
Chino decideds to stay and smoke a joint with sapo and bodega. i don't think he made the right choice. he wants to help his neighborhood and build dreams, but his family is supposed to be his number 1 priority. i don't think he was really thinkin about them when he decided to stay. I see why he did it but i couldn't run the risk of giving up my reality for a dream; especially a dream that wasn't mine to begin with
haha wtf liebs defanitly smokin a joint right now after that comment. Chino stays and helps willie because he noes that deep down its the right thing to do. Blanca should understand where he is coming from and should have his back with whatever chino decides to do.
chino thinks that he is going to be helping the neighborhood. He wants the neighborhood to be better and he thinks bodega has a good idea for their community. I would've done the same thing, because i probably would've thought id be helping the community... also, high five to billy
Right off the bat I would have gotten laced with Bodega. But seriously I believe that Chino understands what kind of man Bodega is. I think he realizes the connections he has and that his popularity is only going up. I think that by staying there and smoking a joint he is showing his devotion to willie bodgega knowing that he is the type of person that will always have your back. In a way this is almost like a job interview in that your actions may speak more then words. Staying there and smoking the joints says wonders for Chino in the eyes of Willie Bodega
he stays and smokes the joint. He clearly has picked his path and is with bodega. I would of also stayed and smoked the joint because he might of gotten in trouble wit Sapo and Bodega and possibly even danger. Staying and smoking the joint was a good decision from Chino.
BAT <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Chino stays and smokes a joint with Bodega to show the respect that he has for him. I think that its good that he wants to help Bodega with trying to help the neighborhood, but Chino's family should come first to him since he is the one that is supposed to always be there for them.
He stays and he smokes the joint with Bodega. I think he does this because he is buying into Bodegas dream off building up the neighborhood even though he is doing this through selling drugs. Personally I would have stayed and smoked the joint with bodega because I personally buy into bodegas dream because the way I see it people will buy the drugs but eventually is he rebuilds the community enough the people will realize they don't need the drugs anymore.
I honestly think that people are looking into this too much. i think that chino just wanted to smoke and thats the only reason that he stayed and hit that joint. but if your asking why he choses to stay and hear Willie out, i think thats because bodega was a certain amount of respect withing el barrio and with this respect comes the acceptance of Chino hearing Bodega out.
Chino decides to stay because he believes in the "dream" that Bodego is talking about. Chino wants to help Bodega get this dream and hopes Blanca understands why he i doing this. I think that I would do the same thing to help out the communiuty and make my town better.
I think that chino stays because he has a lot of respect for willie and what he wants to accomplish. By staying and smoking with him show that he has a lot of respect for willie.
I think he stays and smokes the joint cause blanca keeps him on a tight leash. he is not allowed to smoke in his own house. so that is one reason why he stays and smokes. also i think he stay cause he likes the ideas that willi has for him. but he knows that he will not be alble to go alogn with any of it
liebman you are a prophet haha. He is right selling drugs is the wrong way to make money. If you want to help the community fine, or if you just want some vera in your life i dont care. But, if he is trying to make a new image for himself selling drugs isnt a great image. On the other hand though, this may be seen as a sacrifice. Ruin few to benefit the masses.
this was an act by chino to show his loyalty. This may have been caused by outside pressure and chino feels he needs to do this not for himself but for sapo.
I agree with Danny that staying and smoking the joint with Bodega shows his loyalty to Bodega because he is a very good person to have bon your side. He shows his loyalty to Bodega so that he is not afraid to ask him for a favor in the future.
Chino stayed and smoked up with Sapo and Bodega. I think he settled on smoking the joint because he knows it was the right thing to do for his boy willie. I believe man's first priorities are to himself and to his family, but for himself to embrace the traits of being a good friend he stayed and smoked the joint. To help the town they live in develop I would have made the same decision as Chino.
